VELVET SHADOWS

The Artist / Andrew Collins

Art has always been part of my story, even if I didn’t see it at first. As a kid, I’d stay up late after my parents were asleep, mesmerised by black and white horror films like The Bride of Frankenstein and later film Noir classics like Double Indemnity.

Those films etched themselves into my imagination, but it was striking coolness of Lauren Bacall who truly left her mark.

Despite years at art schools, digital design took over and life pulled me away from painting, but I’ve reignited my artistic spark.

Now, through Velvet Shadows, I channel my fascination with bold, unapologetic women, the femme fatales who exude love, passion, and rebellion.

Why do I paint them?

I don’t overthink it. It’s not about searching for deeper meanings or psychoanalysing my past. It’s simple: I paint what moves me. What resonates. What feels right. And for me, that’s enough.
